Turning Chaparral into a community shared space, where we can rent the auditorium and put on events by local artists and community members, have local events in the beautiful outdoor courtyard, such as the Thursday community Farmers Market, and generally support local culture.

Having it for community usage has been the goal of most of Ojai. Personally, I would like a youth and senior center there.

OUSD is seeking to build apartments without going to the public for a bond. I understand the property needs a great deal of work, not just for renovations and general maintenance, but also for meeting new codes and upgrades.

Maybe, because the housing probably won’t interfere with the buildings, the City can work with OUSD and provide resources that could accomplish some of what you’re asking. It’s only a matter of time before it comes together, because they probably don’t want to continue to maintain it.
