Ask LarryAnswer #14Answered August 30, 2026

How do we keep the sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and drainage lines properly maintained and still cover critical community safety needs?

Larry says

Public Works needs a realistic, fully funded, dedicated budget with annual increases, one that cannot be cut unless there is a real crisis. Roads, sidewalks, drain lines, and the rest of it have to be maintained, upgraded, and replaced using the best practices Public Works identifies.

The same dedicated approach has to apply to a fire clearing, mitigation, and fire hardening budget, including essentials like ember screens, and that money has to actually be spent doing the work, whether or not the cost is reimbursed by the property owner.
